Men’s National Team nominees for the 2022 Canada Soccer Player Awards

Voting from 7 to 15 December

Canada Soccer have launched voting for the 2022 Canada Soccer Players Awards, marking the 30th anniversary since the awards were introduced in 1993. Media and coaches will vote for the Canada Soccer Players of the Year Award while fans will vote for the Allstate Canada Soccer National Teams Good Hands Award.


SAMUEL ADEKUGBE
Samuel Adekugbe featured in all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, notably firing the shot that led to Canada’s goal against Morocco (officially scored as an own goal). In all, he made 13 international “A” appearances, made a career-high 10 starts, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, Adekugbe made 30 appearances across all competitions with Hatayspor FC.

MILAN BORJAN
Milan Borjan played every minute of the group stage in goal for Canada at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In all, he made 13 international “A” appearances in 2022, posted a career-best six clean sheets, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, Borjan made 50 appearances and posted 24 clean sheets across all competitions, winning both the SuperLiga and Serbian Cup. He earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in January, February and May.

TAJON BUCHANAN
Tajon Buchanan started all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He made 13 international “A” appearances, scored and earned Performance of the Match honours against Jamaica in March, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, Buchanan made 28 appearances, scored two goals, and helped Club Brugge KV win the 2021-22 Championnat de Belgique.

JONATHAN DAVID
Jonathan David featured in all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In all, he made 14 international “A” appearances, led Canada with four goals, and helped his nation win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, David scored 12 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions with Lille OSC, notably becoming his club’s all-time leading goalscorer in Ligue 1 matches in France.

ALPHONSO DAVIES
Alphonso Davies played every minute of the group stage for Canada at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, notably scoring Canada’s first goal at a men’s FIFA World Cup. In all, he scored three goals in seven international “A” appearances as Canada won the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, Davies made 27 appearances and won his fourth-straight Bundesliga title with 2021-22 FC Bayern München. He earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in April, June and November.


STEPHEN EUSTÁQUIO
Stephen Eustáquio started two matches in the group stage for Canada at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 before he suffered an injury against Croatia. In all, he made 10 international “A” appearances and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, he scored five goals in 33 appearances and helped FC Porto win the 2021-22 Primeira Liga, the 2022 Taça de Portugal, and the 2022 Supertaça. He earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in September and October.

JUNIOR HOILETT
Junior Hoilett featured in all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, including Performance of the Match honours in the group finale against Morocco. In all, he featured in a career-high 14 international “A” appearances, scored in March against Jamaica, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, he scored three goals in 39 appearances with Reading FC.

ATIBA HUTCHINSON
Captain Atiba Hutchinson featured in all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, notably hitting the crossbar with a header in the group finale. In all, he featured in a career-high 11 international “A” appearances, scored a memorable away goal in February against El Salvador, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, he made 16 appearances for Beşiktaş JK. He earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in March.

ALISTAIR JOHNSTON
Alistair Johnston played every minute of the group stage for Canada at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. For the second year in a row, he led Canada in international “A” appearances (15) and minutes played (1,173). He helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and set a Men’s National Team record with 31 consecutive appearances. At the club level in 2022, Johnston made 37 appearances for CF Montréal and was the club’s Defensive Player of the Year.

MARK-ANTHONY KAYE
Mark-Anthony Kaye featured in one match for Canada at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, making his start against Morocco in the group finale. In all, he featured in nine international “A” matches and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January to November 2022, Kaye scored three goals in 27 appearances, notably starting the season with the Colorado Rapids and finishing the campaign with his hometown Toronto FC.

ISMAËL KONÉ
Ismaël Koné featured in all three matches for Canada in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, notably appearing as the Men’s National Team’s youngest player at age 20. In all, he made eight international “A” appearances, helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, and scored his first international goal in November. At the club level from January to November, he scored four goals and five assists in 32 appearances as a pro rookie with CF Montréal.

CYLE LARIN
Cyle Larin featured in all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Across the calendar year, he made 14 international “A” appearances, scored three goals, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, Larin scored two goals in 28 appearances across all competitions with Beşiktaş JK (2021-22) and Club Brugge KV (2022-23).

RICHIE LARYEA
Richie Laryea featured in all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Across the calendar year, he co-led Canada with 15 international “A” appearances, he earned Performance of the Match honours in March against Costa Rica, and he helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, he made 15 appearances between Nottingham Forest FC in England and Toronto FC in Canada.

KAMAL MILLER
Kamal Miller played every minute of the group stage for Canada at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, notably earning Performance of the Match honours in the group opener against Belgium. In all, he played in a career-high 14 international “A” appearances, delivered two assists, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January to November, he made 34 appearances and scored two goals for CF Montréal.

JONATHAN OSORIO
Jonathan Osorio featured in all three Canada matches in the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, including a start against Morocco. In all, he made 11 international “A” appearances and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. At the club level from January through November 2022, Osorio made 26 appearances across all competitions and co-led or led all Canadians in the MLS with nine goals (tie), six assists (tie), and a 90.8 pass percentage.

STEVEN VITÓRIA
Steven Vitória played every minute of the group stage at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. In all, he made 10 international “A” appearances, scored two goals, and helped Canada win the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. He scored on 9 June against Curaçao and on 17 November against Japan. At the club level from January through November 2022, Vitória made 21 appearances for Moreirense FC (2021-22) and GD Chaves (2022-23) and scored three goals. He earned Canada Soccer Player of the Month honours in August.
