McKenna makes 50th appearance for Canada

Canada’s Kevin McKenna has made his 50th appearance for Canada’s national team. McKenna reached the milestone as part of Canada’s starting XI for the 1 June Men’s International Friendly match against Ecuador in Toronto.



McKenna, 31, is in his 12th season with Canada’s national team. He made his debut back on 27 May 2000 in a Men’s International Friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in Toronto. McKenna becomes the 21st player to reach the milestone for Canada.



McKenna’s experience includes participation in three FIFA World Cup Qualifier campaigns and four CONCACAF Gold Cups (not counting the 2011 edition). Before reaching the full national team, he represented Canada at one CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualification Tournament.



Centre back McKenna currently plays professional soccer in Germany with FC Köln. He has played defence, midfield and forward for Canada over his career. In his first 49 matches for Canada, he scored 10 goals, including one in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2004. In 2009, he led Canada with 710 minutes played.
