Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau has joined the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer. Crépeau joins the Portland Timbers as a free agent through to the end of the 2025 season, with the option to extend for 2026.

“I’m excited to welcome Max to our team,” said Phil Neville, Portland Timbers Head Coach. “He is one of the top goalkeepers in MLS and comes with great experience of winning in the league. His big leadership qualities will make the team stronger.”

Crépeau joins Portland for his 12th MLS season having first joined the league in 2013. In that time, he has logged 100 regular-season appearances (all starts), recording 23 clean sheets with LAFC (2022-2023), Vancouver Whitecaps FC (2019-2021) and the Montreal Impact (2013-2017).

“His ability and character are standout qualities that will strengthen our group,” said Ned Grabavoy, Portland Timbers General Manager. “Max possesses leadership and experience that was a necessity for us in this position and couldn’t be more thrilled by his addition.”

In the last two seasons for LAFC, Crépeau made back-to-back MLS Cup appearances and claimed the 2022 title. Making 36 appearances in LAFC’s 2022 MLS Cup Championship run, he registered 10 shutouts and 79 saves to help LAFC earn the 2022 Supporters’ Shield. For Canada, the goalkeeper has made 15 international “A” appearances with three clean sheets.

Crépeau will be joining fellow Canadian internationals Kamal Miller, James Pantemis and Zac McGraw in Portland. The Timbers’ 2024 MLS season will begin on Saturday 24 February in a home opener at Providence Park against the Colorado Rapids.
