Canadians Marco Carducci and Sean Rea were amongst the award winners at the 2022 Canadian Premier League Awards Ceremony on Friday 28 October in Ottawa. Goalkeeper Carducci from Calgary’s Cavalry FC won the Golden Glove Award while midfielder Rea from Winnipeg’s Valour FC won the Best Canadian U-21 Player Award.
Other award winners were Ollie Bassett (Atlético Ottawa) who won both the CPL Player of the Year and CPL Players’ Player of the Year awards, Alexander Achinioti Jönsson (Forge FC Hamilton) who was named CPL Defender of the Year, Carlos González (Atlético Ottawa) who was named CPL Coach of the Year, and Alejandro Díaz (Pacific FC) who won the CPL Golden Boot.
Each award is a unique piece of Inuit soapstone art carved by artists from Kinngait (Cape Dorset) and Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet), Nunavut.
Carducci is now a two-time winner of the CPL Golden Glove Award, presented annually to the league’s best goalkeeper. He previously won the award in 2019, the league’s inaugural season. Carducci co-led the league in 2022 with 10 clean sheets as his team finished third overall in the league standings. Rea, on loan from CF Montréal, led the league with a league-record nine assists as Valour FC finished fifth overall in the league standings.
