Koné and Viens named Soccer Québec’s 2023 International Players of the Year

Ismaël Koné and Evelyne Viens were named Soccer Québec’s 2023 International Players of the Year during the annual Gala de la Mi-Temps in Drummondville, Québec. The two Canadian footballers were honoured for their remarkable seasons for both club and country including participation in the men’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.

The annual event honours excellence in the province from players, coaches and referees to volunteers, soccer clubs and regional soccer associations. As part of the event, Soccer Québec also paid tribute to Francis Millien who was inducted to the Soccer Québec Hall of Fame.

Alongside Koné and Viens, Woobens Pacius was named the Soccer Québec Canadian Player of the Year while Andrew Olivieri was named the Soccer Québec Coach of the Year. Myriam Marcotte was awarded the Sonia Denoncourt Award as the women’s referee of excellence while Lyes Arfa was awarded the Dino Soupliotis Award as the men’s referee of excellence.

CS Longueuil was named the Club of the Year, ARS Lanaudère was named the Regional Soccer Association of the Year, and the Showcase RSEQ by ARS Lanaudière was named the Event of the Year. In the media category, Québec Soccer Magazine, Olivier Tremblay and Justin Vézina were all recognised for their work.

Along with the big winners, special awards were presented to the 16 different Regional Soccer Associations within the province of Québec: Jocelyn Lévesque (Abitibi-Témiscamingue); Alain Dejeans (Bourassa); Pierre Fillion (Centre-du-Québec); Simon Thériault (Côte-Nord); Philippe Charest-Brenn (Est-du-Québec); Martine Pelletier et Marc-André Nadeau (Estrie); Michael O’Hara (Lac St-Louis); Francisco Oltra (Lanaudière); Charles Mertens (Laurentides); André Leclerc (Laval); Grasset Ronaldo Massrou (Mauricie); Steve Gauvin (Québec); Juliette Perreault (Riev-Sud); Patrick Mignault (Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean); Outaouais volunteers (Outaouais); and Yvan Lavoie (Sud-Ouest).
