Janine Beckie and Alphonso Davies were named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for June 2022. Both Beckie and Davies earned Player of the Match honours in Canada’s home matches in June as Canada Soccer’s National Teams extended their combined home unbeaten streak to 19 international “A” matches since September 2018.

Canada Soccer’s current run is the longest home unbeaten streak in the history of the National Teams Program (16 wins and three draws), now seven matches better than the previous 12-match home unbeaten streak from 2002 to 2004. This past month, the Men’s National Team won 4:0 over Curaçao at BC Place in Vancouver and the Women’s National Team drew 0:0 with Korea Republic at BMO Field in Toronto. Of note, the Men’s National Team tied their record with seven-straight home wins and extended their record with 15 home matches undefeated

In the Men’s National Team victory in Vancouver, Alphonso Davies scored two goals in his first-ever Canada match at BC Place, his former club home with Vancouver Whitecaps FC before his 2018 record transfer to FC Bayern München. Davies opened the scoring midway through the first half on a penalty kick and then scored the 3-0 goal in the 75th minute after a passing sequence with Richie Laryea. The brace gave the 21-year old Davies 12 international “A” goals in 32 career matches since 2017. Other goalscorers in the victory were Steven Vitória from a header and Lucas Cavallini from inside the six-yard box.

Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team are currently preparing for the FIFA World Cup Qatar™ from 23 November to 18 December. In June, Canada posted both a home win and away loss in 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League, which also serves as qualification to the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. That competition will continue with both an away match in Curaçao and home match against Honduras in March 2023.

Beckie, meanwhile, starred for both club and country in June after her summer transfer to Portland Thorns FC in the National Women’s Soccer League. Before the Canada draw, Beckie recorded two assists in four NWSL matches with the Thorns as they posted three wins and one draw with 15 goals scored in June. Beckie then made her 89th career international “A” appearance in the 26 June draw in Toronto.

Up next, Beckie and Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will compete at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Championship with potential qualification to both the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the group phase, Canada will face Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday 5 July, Panama on Friday 8 July, and Costa Rica on Monday 11 July. The semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday 14 July while the Concacaf Final is scheduled for 18 July.

The Concacaf W Championship will be broadcast live on OneSoccer in English, French and Spanish, available as a linear channel on Telus’s Optik TV(Channel 980) as well as online at OneSoccer.ca, through the OneSoccer app and on the fuboTV Canada platform. The first two group matches will be replayed on CBC while the third group match will also be broadcast live on CBC. Fans will find extended coverage for the matches across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #CANWNT.
