Holy Cross FC wins 2022 Newfoundland Labrador women’s provincial championship

Holy Cross FC won the Newfoundland Labrador women’s provincial championship for the seventh year in a row with a 1:0 victory over Feildians AA in the 2022 final. Holy Cross FC forward Jane Pope scored the lone goal in the 10th minute. As provincial champions, Holy Cross FC will advance to the Canada Soccer’s 2022 Toyota National Championships in Vaughan, Ontario.

In the Sunday Final, Holy Cross FC featured Jaime Crocker in goal, Alexe Morgan at right back, Danielle Yonkers and Ciara Molloy at centre back, Lauren Taylor, Teri Murphy and Jane Pope at midfield, and Malorie Harris, Jessie Noseworthy and Connie Lewis up front. In the second half, coach Noel Jake Stanford brought in Morgan Fitzgerald, Kate Hickey, Abigail Evans, Chelsea Tiller and Sarah Jones as substitutes. Keisha Younge, Emily Harbis, Noelle Stanford, Claire Kean and Shannon Galway dressed but did not feature while Alissa Armstrong and Sarah Stewart-Paultit did not dress for the final.

Holy Cross FC previously represented Newfoundland Labrador at Canada Soccer’s National Championships from 2016 to 2019, but the 2020 and 2021 finals were canceled because of the global pandemic. In 2017, Holy Cross FC finished in third place at Canada Soccer’s National Championships, the highest-ever ranking for a Newfoundland Labrador team in the Jubilee Trophy finals.

The Sunday 28 August women’s final was played at King George V Park in St. John’s, Newfoundland Labrador. The men’s final will be played on Sunday 4 September.
