Halifax County United wins 2022 Nova Scotia women’s provincial championship

Halifax County United won their second Nova Scotia women’s provincial championship on Sunday 14 August after a 2:1 victory over Halifax Dunbrack SC in the 2022 final. Allie Martin and Virginia Boone were the Halifax County United goalscorers in the first half before Zoe Brown scored for Dunbrack in the second half. As provincial champions, Halifax County United will advance to Canada Soccer’s 2022 Toyota National Championships in Vaughan, Ontario.

In the provincial final, coach Danielle Cyr’s starting lineup featured Morgan Gillis (goal), Jenna Blackburn at right back, Madison Lavers and Ana Lucas at centre back, Emily Lush at left back, Sacha Clark, Ally Wilton and Virginia Boone at midfield, and Claire Langille, Chloe Richardson and Allie Martin up front. Kenadie Wagg, Madeline Laurence and Megan Ellis featured as substitutes while goalkeeper Haley Baker did not feature. Unavailable for the final were Carley Birrell, Talia Friesen, Ashley Poirier, Allie Scovil, Kayli Strickland, Hannah Wheaton, and Kaitlyn Woodworth.

Halifax County United previously won the Nova Scotia women’s championship in 2006. The team finished in third place that year at the National Championships in Surrey, British Columbia. Halifax County United also reached the provincial final in 2007, 2016 and 2017, notably losing their last two finals to Halifax Dunbrack SC.

In the provincial semi-finals, Halifax County United won 4:2 over United DFC while Halifax Dunbrack SC won 4-1 on kicks after a 0:0 draw with Suburban FC. The Friday semi-finals as well as the Sunday provincial final were played at Mainland Commons in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
