Forge FC advance to Concacaf League Quarterfinals

Late PK sends CPL Island Games Champions closer to Champions League

Canadian Premier League 2020 Island Games Champions Forge FC advanced to the Concacaf League Quarterfinals on an added-time PK from Daniel Krutzen (90’ +2) against Panama’s Tauro FC. Forge FC will now await the winner of Jamaican side Waterhouse FC and Arcahaie from Haiti. The Quaterfinals winner will gain entry to the 2021 Conacaf Champions League.

Canadian Youth International Mo Babouli (11’) opened the scoring for Forge FC with Tauro’s Edwin Aguilar (18’) getting the equalizer just seven minutes later. For Forge FC, it is the second late winner to advance in this year’s Concacaf League competition, after advancing from the Preliminary Round on an Anthony Novak goal in the 83’ against Municipal Limeño in October. Novak also drew the penalty for Forge in the Tauro box before Krutzen finished to move Forge into the Quarterfinals.

Should Forge fail to win their Quarterfinals matchup, they’ll have another Concacaf League opportunity to be one of the two teams to advance via the play-in round. Additionally, Forge FC can qualify for the 2021 Concacaf Champions League via the 2020 Canadian Championship Final in which they’ll face Toronto FC.
