Eustáquio and Viens named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for October 2022

Stephen Eustáquio and Evelyne Viens were named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for October 2022. Midfielder Eustáquio helped FC Porto qualify for the Round of 16 in UEFA Champions League while Evelyne Viens was Canada’s top performer across a pair of October international matches in Europe. Both players are expected to feature for Canada in November as both National Teams continue their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ (starting 23 November) and FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™.
 
Eustáquio helped FC Porto win three-straight group matches in UEFA Champions League in October to clinch a top-two spot in Group B, returning the Portuguese club to the knockout phase of the competition for the first time in two seasons. He notably scored his first career UEFA Champions League goal in a 4:0 win over group leaders Club Brugge KV on Wednesday 26 October, thus clinching their spot in the next round. Including his start on 1 November, he is just the second Canadian midfielder to start every match in the group phase of a UEFA Champions League season (after Atiba Hutchinson).
 
Viens, meanwhile, helped Canada secure two wins in the October window. During Canada’s 2:0 win against Argentina, Viens came off the bench and forced an own goal through her offensive efforts. She also took part as a starter during Canada’s 4:0 win against Morocco, scoring one goal and assisting the opener scored by Jessie Fleming. At the club level in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, Viens scored another two goals in four matches with Kristianstads DFF.
 
Looking ahead to November, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will face Brazil in a pair of international matches on Friday 11 November and Tuesday 15 November. Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team, meanwhile, will face Bahrain on Friday 11 November and then Japan on Thursday 17 November as part of their final preparations ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. At the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, Canada will face Belgium on Wednesday 23 November, Croatia on Sunday 27 November, and Morocco on Thursday 1 December.
