SAN JOSE, CA (Friday, May 14, 2004) – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the California Storm and the San Francisco Nighthawks of the Women’s Premier Soccer League will square off prior to the Earthquakes game against the Canadian National Team on Saturday, June 5. The Storm-Nighthawks game will start at 5:00 p.m. PT followed by the Quakes-Canada match at 7:00 p.m. PT.
In the opening match of the doubleheader, the Storm will be led by a contingent of former San Jose CyberRays players including goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene, Brazilian National Team star Sissi, Christina Bell, Betsy Barr and Kerri Sanchez. The Nighthawks are made up of local college players, including eight current or former players from the University of California-Berkeley. Through last weekend, the Storm is 3-0-0 in the league while the Nighthawks have posted a 1-0-1 record. The two teams have five of the top six scorers in the league, led by Sissi, who already has notched four goals, and the Nighthawks Martha Gudiel, who has two goals and two assists.

In the nightcap, the Earthquakes will take on their former head coach Frank Yallop and the Canadian National Team in the first ever match-up between the two teams. Canada could be led by Earthquakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad and Quakes forward Dwayne De Rosario as it prepares for World Cup Qualifying. Canada also features Everton (England) striker Tomasz Radzinski, Paul Peschisolido of Derby County (England) and Julian de Guzman of Hanover 96 in the German Bundesliga.
