Minnesota United FC
Canadian centre back Doneil Henry has joined Minnesota United FC ahead of the 2023 Major League Soccer season. Henry from Brampton, Ontario most recently split the 2022 season between Los Angeles FC and Toronto FC before being claimed off waivers by Minnesota on Monday 12 December.
Henry was part of Canada’s winning side in the 2021-22 Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, securing the Men’s National Team’s first qualification to the FIFA World Cup in 36 years. A Canada captain at the youth and international “A” levels, he missed the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 through injury, but was part of the team delegation in Qatar. He has made 44 career international “A” appearances for Canada and was also a Concacaf semifinalist at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup.
A three-time Canadian Championship winner with Toronto FC as a teenager, Henry’s career has taken him from Canada to Cyprus, England, Denmark, Korea Republic and USA, notably featuring in both Concacaf Champions League, UEFA Europa League and Asian Champions League as a professional player.
From off the pitch, Henry was Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2018 and was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
