Canadian centre back Doneil Henry has joined Halifax Wanderers FC for the balance of the 2023 season with an option for 2024. An 11-year veteran of Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team, Henry helped Canada finish in first place in the 2021-22 Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and only missed the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 through a November injury.

“As every Canadian soccer fan knows, it’s going to be a pleasure to have Doneil part of our team and add his experience to our group,” said Patrice Gheisar, Halifax Wanderers FC Head Coach. “I think this is huge for the league overall, but also a statement that he believes in Halifax as he would have had many options. I’m excited that he wants to come here as part of his journey.”

Henry is a three-time Canadian Championship winner from his early days as a professional with Toronto FC. He has since played his club football in England, Korea Republic and the United States, including appearances in Concacaf Champions League, UEFA Europa League and AFC Champions League.

With Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team, he has made 44 international “A” appearances and he was a Concacaf semifinalist at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup. He led the Men’s National Team in minuets played in 2016 and was Canada Soccer’s U-20 Player of the Year in 2012.
