MLS All-Star Game
Canadian goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair took home the Most Valuable Player Award at the 2022 MLS All-Star Game at the Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Wednesday night match featured the best Major League Soccer players against the best Liga MX players.
St. Clair, who plays for the Minnesota United FC, was subbed into the match in the 32nd minute and made multiple saves in close to 30 minutes of action, leading the MLS All-Stars to a 2:1 victory. After accepting the award, St. Clair said in his post-match interview that it was “truly an honour to be presented this award.”
St. Clair from Pickering, Ontario credited the local fans for their outstanding support in helping him become just the second Canadian to win the award. St. Clair enters the record books alongside Dwayne De Rosario, the five-time MLS All-Star Game participant who won the award in 2006 after scoring the lone goal in a 1:0 win over Chelsea FC.
Minnesota’s St. Clair and CF Montréal’s Kamal Miller (Scarborough, Ontario) were the two Canadians that featured in this year’s MLS All-Star Game. They are the ninth and 10th Canadians to feature in the annual event, with St. Clair the first Canadian goalkeeper since Pat Onstad (2004 and 2008) and Miller the first Canadian centre back since Frank Yallop (1997). Other Canadians that have featured in previous editions are Jim Brennan (2008), Alphonso Davies (2018), De Rosario (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012), Will Johnson (2009, 2013, 2014), Mark-Anthony Kaye (2019), and Cyle Larin (2016).
