Alphonso Davies and Shelina Zadorsky were named Canada Soccer’s Players of the Month for November 2022. Davies scored Canada’s historic first-ever goal at the men’s FIFA World Cup™ while Zadorsky was Canada’s top defender in a pair of international friendly matches in preparation for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™.
The Davies goal was scored just 67 seconds into Canada’s second match at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, a Sunday group stage match that drew an average audience of 4.4 million viewers on TSN, CTV and RDS. As noted by Bellmedia, it was “the most-watched FIFA World Cup group stage match on record, according to preliminary overnight data from Numeris.”
Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team has returned to the FIFA World Cup™ for the first time in 36 years at Qatar 2022, qualifying as the Kings of Concacaf after a 20-match journey in FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers from March 2021 to March 2022. While Canada will not advance beyond the group stage, they displayed a fearless and entertaining brand of football that challenged the world’s number-two ranked Belgium and the last FIFA World Cup™ runners up Croatia. Canada will close out their group phase on Thursday 1 December against Morocco (18.00 local / 10.00 ET / 07.00 PT).
Zadorsky, meanwhile, helped Canada close out their 2022 international season with a split of their two-match away series in Brazil. She was named Canada’s Player of the Match in their 2:1 victory on Friday 11 November. Featuring in every minute of the two matches, she opened Canada’s scoring with a floating header in the 21st minute of the Friday victory.
