La Liga
Canadian forward Cyle Larin has joined Spanish side Real Valladolid CF in La Liga. Larin joins Real Valladolid CF on loan from Club Brugge KV through to the end of the 2022-23 season.
Larin joins a side that is fighting off relegation near the bottom of the 2022-23 table. The club was relegated just two years ago when they finished 19th in La Liga, then last season won promotion after they finished second in the Segunda División. With only 17 points from 18 matches, Real Valladolid CF will need to improve to 17th or better in the second half of the season in order to maintain their spot in Spain’s top division.
Larin has spent the first half of this season at Club Brugge KV in Belgium where he played in UEFA Champions League and won the Supercoupe de Belgique. He previously played for Beşiktaş JK where he won the league (2020-21 Süper Lig), cup (2021 Türkiye Kupası), and supercup (2022 Türkiye Süper Kupası). Across the 2021 calendar year, he set a modern Canadian record by scoring 36 goals for club and country in all competitions with Beşiktaş JK and Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team.
In 2021-22, Larin helped Canada qualify for the men’s FIFA World Cup for the first time in 36 years and win their third Concacaf title by finishing first in the Concacaf Final Round of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. He was the competition’s top goalscorer and also set a Men’s National Team record with 14 goals scored during the 2021 calendar year.
