Ottawa, Ontario – The Canadian Soccer Association today announced it has obtained the Canadian television rights to broadcast all games involving Canada at the 2001 FIFA Confederations Cup in Japan/Korea, the FIFA World Youth (Under-20) Championship in Argentina and the Copa America in Colombia.
The CSA were able to successfully negotiate the Canadian TV rights for the Confederations Cup, May 30 – June 10 and the FIFA World Youth Championship in Argentina from June 17 – July 8 from FIFA’s marketing agents. The draws for both these competitions have yet to be held. The Confederation Cup Draw will be held on April 4 in Korea while the World Youth Championship Draw will be held on April 26 in Argentina.
The Canadian television rights for the Copa America tournament, to be held in Colombia from July 12-27, were obtained from Telelatino, who had originally acquired the rights last month from the tournament organizing committee.
All of Canada’s games at the FIFA Confederation Cup and FIFA World U-20 Championship will be shown on Sportsnet with most, if not all, of the games also on Reseau des Sports (RDS). An exact broadcast schedule for all three events will be announced once they are determined.
