Córdoba, Western Halifax FC highlight Night of Excellence

Soccer Nova Scotia Night of Excellence

Jhonattan Córdoba and Katherine Bearne have been named Nova Scotia’s Senior Players of the Year. The duo were recognised at the annual Soccer Nova Scotia Night of Excellence in Halifax.

Córdoba is a two-time winner of the provincial award, having also won back-to-back Nova Scotia Soccer League Premiership MVP honours. At the 2017 Toyota National Championships, Córdoba earned MVP honours as Western Halifax FC became just the second Nova Scotia club to win the national Challenge Trophy.

Córdoba scored three goals in October at the Challenge Trophy finals, including one from a bicycle kick. He now has seven goals in three trips to the Toyota National Championships, winning bronze in 2010 with Halifax Dunbrack and gold in 2017 with Western Halifax FC.

Bearne, meanwhile, won both the Most Valuable Player and Young Player Award in the Nova Scotia Soccer League Premiership with Halifax City. Alongside her summer season, Bearne also played university soccer at the University of Ottawa.

Other award winners in 2017 were Ayoub Al-Arabi and Mya Harnisch for Youth Players of the Year, Jared Griffiths for Performance Coach of the Year, Rob Berry for Community Coach of the Year, Cory Hull for Grassroots Coach of the Year, Scott Decker for Official of the Year, George Saleski for Young Official of the year, Adam Miller for Technical Leader, Susan Hickey as Administrator of the Year, and Jackie Fitt as the Woman of Distinction.

Teams of the Year were Western Halifax FC and the Nova Scotia women’s Canada Games team. The Innovative Project of the Year was Nova Scotia Walking Soccer.

The True Sport Grassroots Players of the Year were Sadie Parnaby, Kyrsac MacDonald, Emi Foster, Derin Kaptan, Jakob Halfyard, Jane van Kessel, and Sophie Rideout. The True Sport Community Players of the Year were Borderick Murphy, Liam Bethell, Ethan Thompson, Colby Arnold, Annabelle Linders, Lauren Symes, and Ella Walsh.

The Regional volunteers of the year were Scott Mabee, Steve and Chris Lindsay, Michelle Henry, Susan Marshall Steele, Rob Fraser, Dean McDow, and Paula Boutilier.

The 2017 Soccer Nova Scotia Night of Excellence was held 25 November at Mount Saint Vincent University.
