Churchill Arms wins 2010 Challenge Trophy

Churchill Arms became the first Prince Edward Island team to win the Canadian men’s club championship, doing so on home soil in the 2010 BMO National Championships Challenge Trophy competition. Churchill Arms of Charlottetown, PE won 2:0 over Gorge FC of Victoria, BC in the Monday 11 October final at UPEI Field.

After scoreless 90 minutes, Brett Norton (107′) and Ryan Anstey (111′) scored for the winners in extra time. Captain Jonathan Vos lifted the Challenge Trophy to the delight of the home crowd.

For the Canadian Final, Charlottetown’s starting XI featured Matt Lally (goal), Rob Aiken, Graham Ashworth, Dylan MacDonald, Karel Prickett, Jonathan Vos, Brett Norton, Matt Thomson, Ryan Anstey, Paul Craig and Michel Daoust-Wheatley. The squad, coached by John Diamond, also featured Andrew MacCormack, Jared Murphy, Jordan Chandler, Kenny Morrison, Josh Vessey, Nathan Beck, Dan McAleer, Russell Carson and injured Nathan Snowie. Team staff included Bruce Norton, Lewis Page and David Snowie.

The 2010 BMO National Championships ran from 6 to 11 October in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
