2023 Canadian Championship Preliminary Round Complete

The preliminary round of the 2023 Canadian Championship saw six clubs compete for the chance to advance to the quarter-finals. Pacific FC eliminated Calgary’s Cavalry FC and will play against TSS Rovers FC in an all-British Columbia quarter-finals knockout match after TSS became the first semi-professional side from League1 Canada to eliminate a professional club from the Canadian Premier League in the competition’s history by defeating Winnipeg’s Valour FC with a 3-1 scoreline. York United FC advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Vancouver FC 1-0 and will host last year’s winners Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the quarter-finals. CF Montreal defeated Vaughan FC 2-0 to advance to the Quarter-Finals and will face Toronto FC in an all-MLS matchup. Forge FC Hamilton advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the Canadian Championship after a 3:0 home win over first-time participants FC Laval and will face Atletico Ottawa who secured their first-ever Canadian Championship victory by beating Vaughan SC 3-0.

Canada Soccer and Nike Unveil 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Kits

Canada Soccer and Nike have unveiled the new home, away, and goalkeeper kits for Canada Soccer Women’s National Team, to be worn during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The home kit features an updated geometric maple leaf design in red and black, while the away kit features a traditional red and white look. The kit is made of 100% recycled polyester from plastic bottles, while crests, Swooshes, and trims are made of 100% Nike Grind, and the garments are constructed to reduce fabric waste significantly. The new kits debuted in a match against France on 11 April.

Toronto Announced As Host City Of 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) has unveiled the 15 venues that will host the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, including Toronto’s BMO Field. The 17th edition of Concacaf’s flagship tournament for men’s national teams will take place between June 16 and July 16, and determine the best national team in the region. The tournament will take place during the region’s summer of football, which will also include the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League final on June 4 and the Concacaf Nations League Finals between June 15 and 18 in Las Vegas.

CANWNT Complete FIFA Women’s World CupTM preparation camp in France 

Canada’s Women’s National Team finished their April FIFA International Window with a 2-1 defeat to France in Le Mans. France scored two goals through Grace Geyoro and Léa Le Garrec, while Jordyn Huitema scored Canada’s only goal in the 71st minute. Defender Sydney Collins made her first international appearance for Canada. The match was part of a preparation camp for Canada ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023. Despite the loss, Canada’s coach, Bev Priestman, sees it as a learning experience and is confident that the team will be ready for the World Cup with a strong squad.

CANMNT Group Announced For 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup

Canada will face Guatemala and Cuba in Group D of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, alongside a yet-to-be-determined fourth nation from the preliminary competition. The 16-nation final competition, to be hosted in 15 stadiums across 14 cities in the US and Canada, will run from 24 June to 16 July, with the last of the Concacaf nations to qualify in June. Canada reached the semi-finals in the last edition of the competition in 2021. Prior to the Gold Cup, Canada will compete in the Concacaf Nations League Finals in Las Vegas in June, where they will face Panama in the semi-final stage.

Canada Soccer Adds 5 Referees To The National List Of Referees

Canada Soccer has announced the addition of two referees and three assistant referees to its National Referee List for the 2023 season. The five officials, who graduated from the Canada Soccer NextGen Program, will join 39 others on the list. Members of the NextGen program are eligible for appointment to professional Canadian competitions, including the Canadian Premier League and the Canadian Championship. Meanwhile, two veteran referees, Silviu Petrescu and Juan Marquez, have retired as National List match officials for 2023. Canada Soccer is responsible for the development and training of match officials for amateur and professional competitions in Canada.

Canada Begins Early Preparations For Parapan American Games 2023

Canada Soccer’s Para Soccer National Team has held an identification camp ahead of the Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, this November. Coach Drew Ferguson brought together 13 national team players for the one-day Oakville, Ontario camp. The squad included former Players of the Year Samuel Charron and Damien Wojtiw along with 11 others. Canada will compete in the Parapan American Games for the third time and hopes to improve on its bronze medal finish in Rio in 2007 and fourth place finish in Toronto in 2015. The team features athletes with cerebral palsy or who have had a stroke or brain injury.

Canada Soccer’s eNational Team Advances To FIFAe Nations Playoffs 2023

Canada Soccer’s eNational team has qualified for the FIFAe Nations Playoffs 2023 by defeating the Dominican Republic. Canada scored a total of 48 goals across 12 group stage matches, finishing with a record of 10-0-2 and topping the table. All matches were played 2v2 on the PlayStation 5 version of FIFA 23 using drafted FIFA Ultimate Team Squads. The FIFAe Nations Playoffs are the final stage to determine which nations will compete in the 2023 FIFAe Nations Cup. The top two nations from North and Central America will be represented at the event.
