The Canadian Women’s National Team (CANWNT) is set to face Argentina in a pair of international friendlies, marking head coach Casey Stoney’s first matches on Canadian soil since taking charge earlier this year.

The two-game series begins on Friday at 10:30 p.m. ET at BC Place in Vancouver, with the second match scheduled for next Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET at Starlight Stadium in Langford, B.C.

“These matches aren’t just friendlies; they’re stepping stones for our future. Each game gives us an opportunity to build on our standards, our style of play, and our growing belief as a team”

Canada heads into the matches on the back of a strong performance after claiming the Pinatar Cup title in Spain last month. The squad now turns its focus to Argentina, an opponent they are historically successful against, holding an unbeaten record in six matches dating back to 2003. In their most recent match, Canada secured a 2-0 victory in Cádiz, Spain, in 2022.

With a mix of experience in players, Canada will look to use these fixtures to work on its tactical approach and assess player development ahead of upcoming major tournaments.

“This group has a great blend of experience and emerging talent, and these matches will be an important chance for us to keep building and growing together,” said Stoney.

One key return to the squad is Quinn, who now plays for the Vancouver Rise in the Super League. The veteran midfielder has earned 104 caps for Canada and returns to the squad from an injury at the Paris Olympics.

“It was a decision that was obvious to me,” said Stoney about Quinn’s return to the team for the upcoming friendlies against Argentina.

“They’ve been fit now for a couple of weeks, playing pre-season matches, training, and making themselves available. This year is a big one for me to evaluate players in the environment, see how they perform, and bringing Quinn back in was an important part of that,” Stoney added.

Both matches will serve as valuable tests for Canada, offering the team a chance to build unity and momentum as they prepare for future competitions.
