Canada Soccer has announced their squad for the upcoming international friendly matches against Concacaf rival Mexico, set to take place in Montréal and Toronto.
Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team (CANWNT) will face FIFA’s 31st-ranked Mexico on Saturday 1 June (14.00 ET) in Montréal, Quebec, and again on Tuesday 4 June (19.30 ET) for a special Pride Celebration Match in Toronto, Ontario. Both matches can be watched live on OneSoccer.
The two-match series, co-presented by CIBC and Visa, is a crucial part of Canada’s preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and represents the final opportunity for fans to show their support for CANWNT before they represent our nation on the global stage this summer.
“We’re really excited as the Olympics draw closer and can’t wait to play one last time in front of our amazing fans on home soil,” said Bev Priestman, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team Head Coach. “Mexico is a great side and just the test we need as we edge closer to finalizing an Olympic roster and continue to build on our principles and approach heading into Paris.”
Priestman has named a 24-player squad for the series against Mexico, with the addition of one training player in Allysha Chapman. This roster represents the last selection before the 2024 Olympic Team is finalized. Notably, Canada maintains a strong overall record of 22 wins, 2 draws, and 3 losses against Mexico in 27 encounters.
The ‘Summer Send-Off Series’ kicks off a massive summer of soccer for Canadian fans. Following the two-match series Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team will head to France for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as they look to defend their Tokyo 2020 Olympic Gold medal. They will face the hosts, France, Colombia, and New Zealand during the Group Stage of the tournament running from 24 July through 10 August.

CANADA’S SQUAD
Since they last wore the maple leaf, a few of the selected squad have achieved notable success with their clubs. Kadeisha Buchanan, Ashley Lawrence, Vanessa Gilles and Evelyne Viens all helped their teams win their respective league championship for the 2023/24 season. Notably, Viens was crowned top scorer of Serie A 2023-24. Meanwhile, Jayde Riviere was part of the FA Cup Championship-winning team, while Olivia Smith was recognized as LigaBPI Young Player of the Season in her inaugural season as a professional player.
Canada’s three goalkeepers for the series are Sabrina D’Angelo from Arsenal FC, Lysianne Proulx from Bay FC, and Kailen Sheridan from San Diego Wave FC.
Defenders selected for this series are Kadeisha Buchanan from Chelsea FC, Gabrielle Carle from Washington Spirit, Vanessa Gilles from FCF Olympique Lyonnais, Ashley Lawrence from Chelsea FC, Jayde Riviere from Manchester United FC, Jade Rose from Harvard University, and Shelina Zadorsky from West Ham United FC.
Midfielders joining the team are Simi Awujo from University of Southern California, Jessie Fleming from Portland Thorns FC, Julia Grosso from Juventus FC, Emma Regan from HB Køge, Desiree Scott from Kansas City Current, and Olivia Smith from Sporting CP.
Rounding out the squad are forwards Janine Beckie from Portland Thorns FC, Jordyn Huitema from Seattle Reign FC, Cloé Lacasse from Arsenal FC, Clarissa Larisey from BK Häcken FF, Adriana Leon from Aston Villa WFC, Nichelle Prince from Kansas City Current, Deanne Rose from Leicester City FC, and Evelyne Viens from AS Roma.
Quinn from Seattle Reign FC and Sydney Collins from NC Courage are notable absences from the squad due to injury. Allysha Chapman from Houston Dash will rejoin the team as a training player, marking her first return since her pregnancy last year. Additionally, Nichelle Prince, Olivia Smith, and Jayde Riviere will make their comeback after missing the SheBelieves Cup earlier this year due to injury.
