First meeting since 2023 Concacaf Nations League Final and Gold Cup Quarter-Final
Canada Soccer and U.S. Soccer announced today that CANMNT will play the USMNT in an international friendly during the upcoming September window.
The match will take place on Saturday 7 September at Children’s Mercy Park, in Kansas City, USA. The Men’s September FIFA window is completed with this match, as Canada faces their co-hosts for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 26 with an already scheduled friendly against Mexico on 10 September.
“We’re excited about this friendly match in September against our biggest Concacaf rivals. This is yet another opportunity to continue our preparation for the 2026 World Cup by playing high-quality opponents,” said Jesse Marsch, MLS Canada Men’s National Team Head Coach.
Since 1925, Canada has held a 10W-13D-17L record against their neighbours to the south. The two teams last faced off in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup Quarterfinals, which ended in a thrilling 2:2 draw. The United States ultimately emerged victorious in the penalty shootouts.
Both Canada and the USA are currently competing in the group phase of the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa América. The exciting kickoff match between Canada and the defending FIFA World Cup and Copa América champions Argentina concluded in a 2:0 loss. Next, Canada will play group-stage opponents Peru on 25 June and Chile on 29 June.
