Canadian goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld, defender Jason deVos and defender turned striker Kevin McKenna were honoured for their play at the 2002 Gold Cup.

Hirschfeld was named the tournament’s top goalkeeper after posting two shutouts and allowing only four goals (including an own goal) in five games. It marked the second straight time a Canadian was named top goalkeeper at the tournament after Craig Forrest won the distinction in 2000.

Canadian captain deVos was named to the tournament all-star team after a dominating performance in all five games. The Wigan Athletic centre back once again demonstrated he is among the best defenders in CONCACAF during the tournament, in which he seemed to win every ball in the air.

McKenna was also named to the all-star team after scoring three goals in five games. It could have been more but his second effort against Martinique was called back for an apparent offside. It was a notable achievement for McKenna who was making his debut at the striker position with the World Cup team.
