Canadian veteran Julian de Guzman has been given a green light to join Canada’s campaign against Belize in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The Ottawa Fury FC midfielder will join the Canadian team this week in preparation for matches on 4 September in Toronto and 8 September in Belmopan, Belize.

“Julian is very important for the team—not only because he’s an excellent captain but also because his play in games and in training is very intensive,” said Floro. “He has good quality so we can see he is a very good example for the other players.”
Ottawa’s de Guzman, a three-time Canadian Championship winner and one-time Canadian Player of the Year, has made 82 appearances for Canada’s national team. He sits two back of all-time record holder Paul Stalteri, who made 84 appearances before joining Canada’s national youth program as a coach.
