Canada has wrapped up a two-match away Women’s International Friendly series against USA. The two sides played matches in Kansas, KS and Portland, OR as part of their early preparations for 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying in Vancouver.

Canada has wrapped up a two-match away Women’s International Friendly series against USA. The two sides played matches in Kansas, KS and Portland, OR as part of their early preparations for 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying in Vancouver.



The two sides drew 1:1 in the opening match on 17 September 2011, with goals from Abby Wambach (USA) and Melissa Tancredi. Wambach scored two more goals in the second match to break a 60-minute deadlock wide open, with Alex Morgan adding a goal in the final minute for a 3:0 victory on 22 September.



Canada will have a short break before regrouping in the second week of October to begin preparations for the Pan American Games. The team will play up to five matches in Guadalajara, Mexico, with group matches against Argentina, Costa Rica and Brazil. Canada will nominate its roster for the Canadian Pan American team on Monday 26 September.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, has posted 10 wins, two draws and five losses so far this 2011 season. In its two matches against USA, coach John Herdman featured 21 different players, including three of his four goalkeepers in camp. Three players made their debut in the series: Lauren Sesselmann, Jaclyn Sawicki and Tina Romagnuolo.
