Canada WNT concludes California camp

Canadian team scheduled to arrive in Vancouver just after 17.00 local.

Canada’s women’s national team has concluded its pre-tournament camp in California and will return home on Saturday 14 January 2012. The Canadian team is expected to land in Vancouver via the Vancouver International Airport just after 17.00 local. The players will have Sunday and Monday to themselves before returning to work on Tuesday 17 January.

Canada will compete in the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament from 19-29 January at BC Place in Vancouver. Canada will play group stage matches against Haiti (19 January), Cuba (21 January) and Costa Rica (23 January). The top two teams from the group then advance to the semi-final stage on 25 January to play one of the top two teams from the opposite group, either USA, Mexico, Dominican Republic or Guatemala (A1 v B2 and B1 v A2). The semi-final winners advance to the final and qualify for the London 2012 Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

Canada trained in Fullerton, CA from 3-13 January. The team camp included one exhibition match against local club Los Al Vikings SC, a 3:0 Canadian victory on 9 January.

Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck, will meet the Canadian media in person on Monday 16 January at 12.15 PT local at the Georgian Court Hotel.
