Ottawa, Ontario – The draw for the Football Confederation’s 2002 Gold Cup was held yesterday with Canada drawing Haiti and Ecuador in Group D. For the first time in history, Ecuador qualified for the FIFA World Cup and will round out the 12-team field for the tournament.
Ottawa, Ontario – The draw for the Football Confederation’s 2002 Gold Cup was held yesterday with Canada drawing Haiti and Ecuador in Group D. For the first time in history, Ecuador qualified for the FIFA World Cup and will round out the 12-team field for the tournament. Canada’s first game is slated for January 18 against Haiti, followed by January 22 vs Ecuador. Both games will kick-off at 9:00 p.m. EST.
Group D is scheduled to play in Miami, Florida (Orange Bowl), along with Group C. Group A and Group B will play in Pasadena, California (Rose Bowl). The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage.
The 2002 Gold Cup will take place from January 18 to February 2, 2002 with the semifinals and final set for the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
