Canada To Play Australia In Victoria and Vancouver

Edmonton, Alberta – The Canadian Soccer Association announced today that Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team will play a two-game series against Australia in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia on September 26 and 28, 2002 respectively.



The first game will be played on Thursday, September 26 at Swangard Stadium at 8:00 p.m. with the second game being played at Victoria’s Centennial Stadium on Saturday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m.

The first game will be played on Thursday, September 26 at Swangard Stadium at 8:00 p.m. with the second game being played at Victoria’s Centennial Stadium on Saturday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m.



The games will serve as part of Canadian head coach Even Pellerud’s preparations for the upcoming Women’s Gold Cup, which will double as CONCACAF qualifying for the 2003 Women’s World Cup in China in September, 2003. The two finalists in the Gold Cup will earn automatic berths while the third place team will face a playoff with a team from Asia for another spot.



Victoria will host Group B (Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica and the winner of Haiti-Suriname who will play a two-game playoff beginning September 1) while Group A (USA, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago) will compete in Pasadena and Fullerton, California and Seattle, Washington. The tournament will run from October 27 to November 9 with the semi-finals in Seattle and the final slated for the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
