Canada Soccer’s eNational Team finished a tight group stage on Thursday 28 July in 4th place of Group C, securing a spot in the Round of 16.  Canada will face Argentina on Friday 29 July who finished 1st place in Group A at Bella Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The FIFAe Nations Cup 2022 knockout stage features the top four nations across 4 groups and will be held from 29-30 July in the largest FIFAe event of the year.

On the first day of group stage competition, Canada opened their campaign against Portugal who are currently ranked 4th in the FIFAe Global Rankings. Canada started very strong but conceded in the 88’ to finish 0:1 in favour of the Portuguese. Canada would rebound in their second match which finished in a 2:1 win for Canada over Kazakhstan. Canada lost their third match against Israel 0:1 after conceding a long-distance goal in the 86’. Canada went on to pick up an important win in their 4th match, defeating Korea Republic 2:1. In their final match of the first day of group stage play, Canada took on group favourites Spain and played their best group stage match.  Canada became the first team of the day to score against Spain in the group stage before Spain grabbed a late equalizer.  The draw resulted in Canada earning an important point and in 4th place and sitting in a playoff position at the end of the first day of the Group Stage. 

Returning to Bella Arena for Group Stage day 2, Canada would play a second match against all Group C opponents. Canada had a rocky start to the day with a 0:1 loss to Portugal. In their second match of the day, Canada would receive an early red card against Kazakhstan and go on to lose 0:3. Canada would bounce back in their 4th match of the day with a 6:1 victory over Korea Republic and finish Group Stage play with a 0:0 draw against Spain to secure Canada’s place in the Round of 16.

Canada will take on Argentina who finished in first place of Group A in the Round of 16 on Friday 29 July at 11:00AM Local / 5:00AM Eastern / 2:00AM PT
