Canada Soccer returns to Calgary for the Futsal Canadian Championship

#FutsalCanadianChampionship

Canada Soccer’s Futsal Canadian Championship will return to Calgary this April where the 2026 competition will be hosted by the Calgary United Soccer Association in partnership with Tourism Calgary. A proven host city that features world-class facilities and friendly volunteers, the Blue Sky City will again be the destination for the best futsal clubs in Canada.

The 2026 Futsal Canadian Championship will bring together qualified teams from 8-12 April with all matches to be played at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Tsuut’ina Nation, the same location where the competition was held in 2023 and 2024 after the women’s division was introduced three years ago.

“We’re proud to return to Calgary for the 2026 Futsal Canadian Championship. Calgary is a city that continues to play a key role in the growth and development of futsal in Canada. This championship will showcase the speed, skill, and passion that make an essential and rapidly growing part of Canada’s sporting landscape.”

– Peter Augruso, Canada Soccer President

This past year, 16 qualified teams participated in the 2025 Futsal Canadian Championship in Regina with a group of 200 players, 53 coaches/staff, and 12 referees attending the event. Those 16 teams qualified from a group of 216 teams competing in league and cup competitions across eight provinces and territories. The 2026 Futsal Canadian Championship marks the 10th edition of the competition since it was launched in 2015.

“Hosting Futsal Nationals is part of CUSA’s legacy, and we’re excited to welcome the country back to Calgary in 2026. Our community, our volunteers, and our experience make this event special every time. Partnering with Seven Chiefs Sportsplex adds another layer of excellence, giving us the ideal venue to elevate the championship once again.”

Raj Uppal, CUSA Board President

“Calgary is thrilled to welcome the 2026 Futsal Canadian Championships to our city in April. Soccer is deeply embedded in Calgary’s sport culture, and hosting this dynamic indoor competition is an important part of our commitment to year-round sport hosting. Fans love this fast-paced game, and we’re thrilled to welcome elite athletes, teams, and fans to Seven Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre to experience Calgary’s vibrancy and our legendary hospitality.”

Carson Ackroyd, Senior Vice President at Tourism Calgary

Futsal is an exciting and fast-paced sport played indoors on a small court with five players to each side. It features a sport-specific ball that does not bounce the same way as a traditional football bounces on grass or turf and the sport features its own unique Futsal Laws of the Game which differ from traditional football. Each match features two 20-minute halves with the clock stopped each time the match is interrupted as well as rolling substitutions so that players can come in and out of the match.

At the elite club level, Canada Soccer supports domestic competition through the annual Futsal Canadian Championship for men and women. Canada Soccer launched the Men’s Futsal Canadian Championship in 2015 and the Women’s Futsal Canadian Championship in 2023. Calgary is scheduled to host both the 2026 and 2028 editions of the Futsal Canadian Championship.
