In December 2024, Canada Soccer earned recognition as one of the two founding members of the Concacaf Coaching Convention at the A, B, and C Diploma levels. This achievement marks the successful culmination of a multi-year process in which Canada Soccer’s coach education program underwent rigorous auditing and approval by representatives from both Concacaf and FIFA.
“We are delighted to welcome Canada Soccer as an official member of the Concacaf Coaching Convention. This recognition underscores Canada Soccer’s unwavering commitment to raising coaching standards and establishing a clear development pathway for coaches at all levels. By aligning with the Convention, Canada Soccer ensures that its coaching framework meets the highest standards, directly benefiting players, clubs, and the overall growth of football in the country. Furthermore, Canadian coaching qualifications will now be recognized across the region, opening up greater opportunities for coaches to develop and contribute to the game on a broader scale. We look forward to collaborating closely with Canada Soccer to advance coaching development across Concacaf.”
– Jason Roberts, Chief Football Development Officer of Concacaf

To align with this new guideline, the Coaching Association of Canada updated the NCCP Making Head Way in Sport online training tool, designed to help coaches protect the safety of their athletes.
As of January 1, 2025, the old NCCP Making Head Way in Soccer module was retired and replaced by the new NCCP Making Head Way in Sport module, which will be incorporated into all Canada Soccer coach education standards and pathways. The Making Head Way in Sport training is free and takes approximately 90 minutes to complete.

Coaches who completed the former Making Head Way in Soccer module will have this training recognized. While it is encouraged that all coaches complete the new module to stay updated on the latest guidelines, it is not required to maintain current qualifications for the Canada Soccer Safe Sport Roster and Coach Education Minimum Standards. Going forward, all coaches required to complete Making Head Way training must complete the NCCP Making Head Way in Sport module.
