Canada Soccer Para Soccer pays tribute to MacIsaac family

Canada Soccer’s Para Soccer National Team recently paid tribute to former teammate Lucas MacIsaac who passed away last summer after living for eight years with cancer. The tribute took place on 2 November during the National Team’s training camp in Pickering, Ontario with the MacIsaac family on hand to receive a Canada jersey with Lucas’ name and number 17.

“For all the tough times that Lucas went through, he always had a smile on his face when he was attending our camps,” said Drew Ferguson, Canada Soccer’s Para Soccer National Team Head Coach. “He was a very solid young player and had a load of potential to be a top player for Canada, but unfortunately through his illness this was not allowed to happen. His smile will be missed by the entire Para Soccer National Team.”

MacIsaac, who was 15 years old when he passed away, took part in three Para Soccer evaluation camps in Oakville, Ontario when he was 13 years old from April to June 2018.

As noted in MacIsaac’s obituary from July 2020, ” Lucas never defined himself as a child with cancer but as a young boy trying to live the best life possible. Lucas had a deep passion for soccer. He loved to play, watch, coach and volunteer. Some of our fondest memories are from the countless hours we spent playing soccer in our backyard.”
