Canada Soccer launches ‘The Summit’ mini-series as part of countdown to FIFA Women’s World Cup journey 

Full length documentary, multiple mini-series, and a collection of marketing initiatives set to hit Canada Soccer channels  

Canada Soccer announced today its plans for storytelling and promotion of its sixth-ranked Women’s National Team, as the FIFA Women’s World Cup draws near. It also released the first episode of multiple upcoming mini-series scheduled throughout the next six weeks. 

The first episode of The Summit, presented by CIBC, highlights Jessie Fleming from London, Ontario, as she prepares for her third FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance. There will be seven more episodes in the series, released every Friday beginning 9 June 2023 on all Canada Soccer channels. The other seven episodes will feature six players and Head Coach, Bev Priestman. 

The much anticipated #WECAN Canada Soccer Women’s National Team multi-episode feature documentary, presented by CIBC, following the team’s journey to Australia was also confirmed today with a launch scheduled for later this month, and episodes released weekly leading up to kick-off of Canada’s opening FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage match versus Nigeria on 20 July 2023. 

“Our team has been working so hard to get ready for the World Cup and the ability to tell those compelling stories and to show the diverse personalities of our players to our fans is just really exciting,” said Bev Priestman, Head Coach, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team. 

Two other mini-series that will be launched in the coming weeks include: Canuck Commentary, a video series featuring a fun mash-up of Women’s National Team players commentating on their own marquee matches; and another fun and lighthearted series which will bring fans closer to their soccer heroes. The launching of these video series is part of Canada Soccer’s investment in the capturing of content to produce player-focused features to give fans a more intimate look into behind-the-scenes and amplifying the personalities of the Women’s National Team players. 

“We are thrilled to be able to ramp up our content and marketing efforts, after months of planning, shooting and producing the content that fans are about to see,” added Jason deVos, interim General Secretary, Canada Soccer. “What we have heard loud and clear from our fans is that there is a massive appetite for more access to the stories around our players, and we are going to deliver just that.”  

Canada Soccer has also shot and produced individual features on each of the four female Canadian referees that will be participating at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. An initial video vignette of featuring the full group can be found below.

In addition to Canada Soccer specific content, fans can also expect various partner-focused video moments to be released in the weeks ahead. Included in that mix, will be a collaborative TikTok branded campaign being produced that will encompass Skills Challenge, Ask #CanWNT, and arrival and travel videos of our Women’s National Team on location in Australia. 

Additional marketing and corporate partner initiatives will be announced and released in the coming weeks.
