With extended, behind-the-scenes footage and never-before-seen interviews, Canada Soccer has launched the Canada Soccer Women’s National Team #WeCAN Documentary Series, presented by CIBC, following the team on the journey to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™. The Documentary Series will run across the four weeks leading-up to Canada’s opening match at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup ™, with an episode being released weekly.

“Our team has been working so hard to get ready for the World Cup and the ability to tell those compelling stories and to show the diverse personalities of our players to our fans is just really exciting,” said Bev Priestman, Head Coach, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team.

The #WeCAN Documentary Series provides unique insight into the inner workings of Canada Soccer’s National Teams on the road to the biggest tournaments in the world of sports. Produced by Canada Soccer, the series is spoken in the ‘athlete’s voice,’ thus providing an opportunity for the players and staff of the National Teams to tell their story in their own words.

“Our Women’s National Team players are incredibly talented and continue to inspire all Canadians. We are so excited to launch the #WeCAN Documentary Series that will provide an inside look at Canada’s journey as they prepare to step onto the world stage representing our nation,” added Charmaine Crooks, Canada Soccer President.

Episode one of the series, “The Olympic Champions”, reflects on the team’s historic Olympic Gold Medal accomplishment at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and subsequent triumphant return to Canada. Future episodes will cover the early stages of team’s journey to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, symbolic trips to Australia and Brazil, adversity and challenges at the She Believes Cup, growing momentum towards this summer’s competition, and the team’s final preparations in Australia.

This  #WeCAN Documentary Series follows last year’s Men’s National Team Series, making it the first time that both Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team and Women’s National Team have reached the final competitions for the FIFA World Cup™ in the same quadrennial cycle. The Men’s National Team participated in their first FIFA World Cup™ since 1986 in November 2022, while the Women’s National Team will participate in their eighth consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup™ since 1995.
