Canada Soccer Announces Updated Advanced Coach Education Program and expanded 2023 Coach Education Schedule

Advanced Coach Education Program

Canada Soccer has announced an update to its Advanced Coach Education Program Pathway, along with a return to in-person workshops for 2023. The changes to the Program reflect the requirements of the Concacaf Coaching Convention, which is scheduled to come online in 2023.

“Our Advanced Coach Education Program Pathway is vital to the development of the game at all levels, from grassroots to professional soccer,” said Earl Cochrane, Canada Soccer General Secretary. “We have worked collaboratively with Concacaf and our Member Associations over several years to assist in the creation of the Concacaf Coaching Convention, and we look forward to its implementation in 2023.”

The changes will see Canada Soccer align its Advanced Coach Education Program to the requirements of the Concacaf Coaching Convention, and are highlighted in the core coaching pathway, which will see coaches have the opportunity to progress from the C Diploma to the B Diploma, A Diploma, and Pro Diploma. Coaches working in professional academy environments will have access to a new Youth A Diploma, while coaches working in specialist areas of the game will have access to courses such as the Children’s Diploma. Other specialist courses, including the Futsal Diploma and the Technical Director Diploma, are also being created.

“This update allows us to continue to evolve our course offerings to meet the needs of coaches in Canada,” said Jason deVos, Canada Soccer’s Director of Development. “The requirements outlined in the Concacaf Coaching Convention are clear, and we are aligning our Coach Education Program to those requirements to provide maximum value to our coaches. The implementation of the Concacaf Coaching Convention is a big step forward for coaching development in the region, and we are excited to continue our work with Concacaf to educate coaches in Canada,” deVos said.
