Canada ready for Canada 2015 opponent China

Canada will finish first at the BaoAn Cup Shenzhen 2015

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ may be 20 weeks away, but the fans in Shenzhen, China PR will get a sneak peek to this summer’s opening match on Thursday night.

China PR will host Canada on 15 January in the tournament finale at the BaoAn Cup CFA Women’s International Football Tournament Shenzhen 2015 (19.30 local / 06.30 ET / 03.30 PT). The match will be broadcast in China PR by CCTV-5.

This summer on 6 June, the two sides will meet again in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ opener in Edmonton, AB.

Canada has already secured first place at the BaoAn Cup, but would of course like to close out the competition with a win. Canada leads the round-robin tournament with six points after two matches, followed by Korea Republic with three points (who lost to Canada and thus can’t win the tournament based on the tie-breaker rules) and both China PR and Mexico with one point apiece.

This will be the third Canada-China PR meeting since coach John Herdman took charge of the Canadian team in September 2011 (also the third encounter for Chinese coach Hao Wei). Canada won both of the recent matches, a 1:0 win in Moncton in front of 7,514 fans in May 2012 and a 1:0 win at the Yongchuan Cup in January 2013.

Already in this tournament, Canada has won 2:1 over Korea Republic on 11 January and 2:1 over Mexico on 13 January.

Like Canada and China PR (both in Group A), Korea Republic and Mexico are also preparing for this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™. On Thursday 14 January, two players from each team attended the FIFA Live Your Goals Trophy Tour in Shenzhen.
