Canada trained today at Ford Field in Detroit ahead of Tuesday night’s tournament opening match against the USA (20.00 local kick-off).The match will be played on a natural grass pitch that has been laid down at the NFL stadium and a crowd of over 60,000 is expected for Canada’s first match of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Canada trained Monday afternoon at Ford Field in Detroit ahead of Tuesday night’s tournament opening match against the USA (20.00 local kick-off).
The match will be played on a natural grass pitch that has been laid down at the NFL stadium and a crowd of over 60,000 is expected for Canada’s first match of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The game will be broadcast in Canada on Rogers Sportsnet (20.00 ET / 17.00 PT), as well as streamed live online at GoldCup.org.
Head Coach Stephen Hart knows that Canada will be in for a stern test when they take on the number one ranked side in CONCACAF at home on Tuesday evening.
The USA will be very prepared, as they have always been. Hart stated. They are a force at home.
Canada’s match against the USA will be the second game of a Tuesday night double-header at Ford Field. The Canadians will take on the Americans after Panama squares off against Guadeloupe (18.00 local kick-off) to get things underway in Group C.
The CONCACAF Gold Cup is the regional championship for the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.
The winner of the 2011 tournament will earn the right to represent CONCACAF at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil in 2013.
