Canada prepares for second leg of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers with Belize
Canada continued their preparations at home midway through the Belize series, holding both a regeneration session on Saturday and light training session on Sunday after their big win on Friday night. Canada holds a 3-0 lead in the two-match, total goals elimination series in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Belize.
Canada were defensively dominant in their victory at BMO Field on Friday 4 September. The team, led by centre backs Adam Straith and David Edgar, conceded no shots on goal as they posted their seventh clean sheet in their last eight international matches.
After their Sunday training session in Toronto, the team boarded a direct flight for Belize City. The team arrived safely later that evening.
Canada are one of 18 CONCACAF nations still in the hunt for 3.5 spots to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. Twelve of those 18 nations are competing in CONCACAF Round 3, with six nations to be eliminated on Tuesday 8 September. For Canada, a Tuesday win will advance them to a four-team round-robin group with Mexico, Honduras, and the winner of the Curaçao-El Salvador series.
The Tuesday Belize-Canada match kicks off at 19.00 local (21.00 ET / 18.00 PT) at FFB Stadium in Belmopán, approximately 90 kilometres away from Belize City.
