Canada opens Women’s Revelations Cup match against Colombia

Canada Soccer’s Women’s U-17 National Team fell 0:1 to Colombia in their opening match at the Women’s Revelations Cup, an international tournament featuring four nations that are all preparing for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022. Canada worked hard, but conceded a late goal in the last minute when Stefania Perlaza scored on a header from a Laura Garavito free kick in the 93rd minute.
 
“It was a good test against a good opponent and we had a couple of new players who got their debuts got and significant minutes,” said Emma Humphries, Canada Soccer’s Women’s U-17 Coach. “There were some big performances that helped us step up today, which gets me excited for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. We’re getting there and we’re progressing well.”
 
This tournament in Léon, GT, Mexico is an important development step towards future Concacaf and FIFA youth competitions at the U-17 and U-20 levels and more importantly a step towards competing at the international level for Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team at Concacaf, FIFA and Olympic tournaments.

Canada will first face Mexico on Saturday 3 September (16.00 local / 17.00 ET / 9.00 PT) and conclude their campaign against Chili on Tuesday 6 September (13.00 local / 14.00 ET / 11.00 PT). The tournament will be broadcast live on TV4 and digital platforms of TUDN and TV Azteca. Throughout the competition, fans will find coverage across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube featuring the hashtag #canw17. 
 
Earlier this year, Canada finished in third place at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship and in third place at the Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship. Canada will compete in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022 in October.
