Canada MNT squad selection unveiled in downtown Vancouver

A set of 23 #CanadaRED jerseys were on tour this Friday morning at iconic locations in the City of Vancouver, host site for next week’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers match at BC Place. The interactive tour gave local fans the first opportunity to learn the 23 names that will represent Canada in upcoming home and away international matches on 13 and 17 November this month.

“We want the stadium to be full of Canadian supporters who understand how important they can be to help the team,” said Canada’s Men’s National Team Head Coach Benito Floro, who will arrive in Vancouver this weekend alongside players from professional clubs on four continents. “We need that Canadian support to help guide the team to victory.”

On the Road to Russia 2018, Canada kicks off the CONCACAF semi-final stage at home against Honduras on Friday 13 November in Vancouver, British Columbia. Tickets to the match start as low as $25 (plus applicable fees). Tickets are available online via ticketmaster.ca, by phone at 1.855.985.5000, or in person at the BC Place Box Office.

One week out on Friday 6 November, Canadian supporters were given the chance to pose for pictures with the moving roster display in Vancouver. The 23 #CanadaRED jerseys had the name and number of each soccer player called into the November selection.

The roster was also presented on migmultidev-canada-soccer.pantheonsite.io, the official digital home to Canada’s national teams.

“We believe in this group of players,” said Floro, whose Canadian side will face Honduras at home on 13 November and El Salvador away on 17 November. “We want our best roster, so we are always in review of the performances of our players with their professional clubs and make our selection in consideration of the matches we will play.”

In this CONCACAF semi-final stage, the 12 nations are divided into three groups, with each four-team group playing six matches during international windows over an 11-month period. Following these two matches in November, Canada will play two matches in March 2016 (at home and away against Mexico) and two matches in September 2016 (away against Honduras and at home against El Salvador).

“At home, it is very important to play in the stadiums supported by professional soccer clubs,” said Floro. “Along with the national feeling that our home supporters can bring, they also bring an understanding of the game and how important they can be as our 12th man on the Road to Russia 2018.”
