Canada MNT returns to Vancouver on Road to Russia

Tuesday 6 September in Vancouver.

Canada Soccer’s road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ will continue in Vancouver, British Columbia this 6 September 2016, with the final match of the CONCACAF semi-final round to be played at BC Place. Canada will face El Salvador in the crucial qualification match that can extend Canada’s journey into CONCACAF’s final round of FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers.

With Mexico already advanced after four (out of six) group matches, the last two matches in September will decide whether Canada, El Salvador, or Honduras advances to the CONCACAF Final, otherwise known as “the Hex.”

“The home support and sea of #CanadaRED will be very important in our final home match of our group in September,” said Victor Montagliani, Canada Soccer President. “We expect that the 12th man will make all the difference for us to continue our journey on the Road to Russia.

Canada faces Honduras away on Friday 2 September in San Pedro Sula and then El Salvador at home on Tuesday 6 September. Canada (four points, -4 goal difference), Honduras (four points, -1 goal difference), and El Salvador (two points, -5 goal difference) all trail Mexico in the group standings (12 points and +10).

“Playing the last match at home has to be one of the most important motivations for our players,” said Benito Floro, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Head Coach. “Playing this match at home will be an advantage because we can have big support from our fans. We were really impressed how our supporters helped fill the stadium in March. “

Tickets to the upcoming 6 September match in Vancouver will officially go on sale this 26 April with a special pre-sale window kicking off on 19 April. Tickets are on sale via CanadaSoccer.com/Tickets.

Both the away 2 September and home 6 September matches will be broadcast on TSN.
