Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team had an inspiring run at the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup as they reached the Semifinals before falling on kicks from the penalty mark. Canada came from behind twice against the Americans, scoring late to send the match into extra time and then scoring late again to send the match into kicks. Canada were eliminated after they lost 3-1 on kicks.

Officially, Canada were undefeated across the tournament with four wins and one draw. Adriana Leon won the Top Goal Scorer Award while Olivia Smith won the Best Young Player Award. Forward Leon, midfielder Jessie Fleming and fullback Ashley Lawrence were named to the tournament’s Best XI.

“I am super proud, the group have massively taken a step forward and I think that’s clear to me,” said Bev Priestman, Head Coach of Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team. “The mindset of the group (against USA), we were in it, we were pushing and we were pushing and it went right to the wire. We came back twice and I think there’s something to be said for that in the belief in the group.”

Canada are back in action in April at the SheBelieves Cup in the United States. Canada face Brazil in the Semifinals on Saturday 6 April and then either USA or Japan three days later on Tuesday 9 April.
