“Our team only played an average first half,” said head coach Even Pellerud. “With Christine Sinclair playing as a high midfielder behind Hooper, Latham, and Lang, we were not able to win enough balls in the middle. Higher midfield intensity and better execution in the second half allowed us to create a number of opportunities.”

Karina LeBlanc earned her 10th international shutout for Canada. Canada is undefeated in three games with a goal total of 12-0.

“It’s satisfying that we now have three games in a row without conceding a goal. With a total of 10-3 in goal chances, we certainly deserved the win. That said, the win was too big and we need a new focus on Sunday to get a good result. That game will be played without three Pro (WUSA) players as they have to report back to their clubs,” concluded Pellerud.

Canada will play Mexico again on Sunday, June 14th.
