Canada Defeats Brazil 2:1

Montreal, Quebec – Canada’s Women’s World Cup Team defeated sixth ranked Brazil 2-1 today in an international friendly in front of 12,245 at Molson Stadium in Montreal.



After a scoreless first half, Brazil’s Tatiana Torres was first to score in the 47th minute with a straight shot from 18 yards out.



Rhian Wilkinson of Baie D’Urfe, Quebec in her second appearance with Canada scored in the 67th minute when she tapped the ball into the net after a Kara Lang cross that sailed past the Brazil goal keeper Giselle Pereira De Vasconcellos.



After a Kristina Kiss free kick in the 88th minute, Canada’s winning goal came from Randee Hermus who was able to find the back of the net on a goal mouth scramble.

The game was Canada’s first win against Brazil in three games.



Canadian goal keeper Karina LeBlanc played all 90 minutes for Canada.



“It was a great preparation game in a great atmosphere,” said Head Coach Evan Pellerud. “We haven’t seen something like this in an exhibition game before.”



Canada is scheduled to play Brazil again on Sunday, July 20th at Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa.
