Canada celebrates opening ceremonies in São Paulo

Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team celebrated the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies from afar – in São Paulo, Brazil!

Already in action with a Wednesday 2:0 victory over Australia, Canada were not in Rio for the Opening Ceremonies on Friday 5 August. Instead, they were preparing for their second match of the competition, a Saturday afternoon match against group rivals Zimbabwe

Like they did at London 2012 when they were initially based in Coventry, Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team dressed in their Opening Ceremonies gear and watched the event as a group from their hotel in São Paulo. They even staged their own ‘parade of nations’ walk at the team hotel.

The Canada-Zimbabwe match will be broadcast live on Canada’s Olympic Network CBC TV and Radio-Canada starting at 14.00 ET / 11.00 PT (15.00 local). It will also be streamed via CBC’s App for Rio2016 in French and English (available for download for iOS and Android).
