One more win for the captain and her sidekick, one more win for two of Canada’s greatest legends of all time.

As Christine Sinclair and Sophie Schmidt said good bye to their international careers in front of a packed and emotional crowd at “Christine Sinclair Place” in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada came through with their fourth home win in their last five matches. The two ranked first and second in all-time Canada appearances, with Sinclair ranked first for Canada (and second in the world) with 331 appearances and Schmidt ranked second for Canada with 226 appearances.

It was a 1:0 win for Canada over Australia with Quinn the match winner late in the first half. A Jessie Fleming corner kick was headed on by Sinclair before Kadeisha Buchanan’s shot was tipped off the crossbar by goalkeeper Teagan Micah. Quinn was on the spot to head the rebound into the goal for the 1-0 lead.

With 48,112 in attendance, it was the largest friendly crowd for a Women’s International Friendly match played in Canada and the seventh largest crowd ever for Canada Soccer’s National Teams match. In 2023, it is the second-largest crowd for an in-stadia sporting event in Canada behind only the outdoor hockey Heritage Classic in October.
