Canada’s men’s national team has started a one-week in camp in Larnaka, Cyprus in preparation for this Saturday’s international friendly match against Cyprus. The 18-player roster has gathered under the direction of interim head coach Stephen Hart and his staff.
Coach Hart says the first two sessions in camp went well as the coaching staff worked on “getting the relationships working” amongst the new players and the veterans. Of note, Dominic Imhof, Tosaint Ricketts and Eddy Sidra are all first-time call ups to the national squad.

Canada’s men’s national team has started a one-week in camp in Larnaka, Cyprus in preparation for this Saturday’s international friendly match against Cyprus. The 18-player roster has gathered at the end of a long European season to prepare under the direction of interim head coach Stephen Hart and his staff.
Coach Hart says the first two sessions in camp went well as the staff worked on “getting the relationships working” amongst the new players and the veterans. Of note, Dominic Imhof, Tosaint Ricketts and Eddy Sidra are all first-time call ups to the national squad.
Coach Hart says the young players “are enthusiastic and they want to show well… sometimes a little too enthusiastic, but that is better than being lethargic.” Hart explains the young players need to learn from the older players while also pushing the older players for a position in the lineup.
Canada faces Cyprus this 30 May at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium in Larnaka, Cyprus. The match kicks off at 20.00 local time.
Canada is currently preparing for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup which runs 3-26 July in 13 cities across USA. In the opening group stage, Canada faces Jamaica on 3 July in Los Angeles, El Salvador on 7 July in Columbus, and Costa Rica on 10 July in Miami.
