Canada announces roster for Alabama series

OTTAWA (ONTARIO) – Canada’s women’s Olympic development team announced their roster today for the 2007 International Soccer Festival in Alabama. Canada will play at least two games in the tournament: they play México on 22 April in Birmingham, AL and Argentina on 24 April in Montgomery, AL.

Canada will send a mixed team of national-team veterans and youth-team prospects to this tournament. Half of the roster is made up of U-20 players, including 2006 Canadian Youth Player of the Year Jodi-Ann Robinson. Canada is currently preparing for the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007 in July and the FIFA Women’s World Cup China 2007 in September. The Olympic qualification tournament takes place in March 2008. Along with the two games in Alabama this month, Canada’s full women’s national team plays international friendly matches against China on 3 May and 6 May (Hangzou) and against the United States on 12 May (Frisco, TX).

Canadian women have faced Argentina, meanwhile, only once: a 3:0 win by the senior team at the FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 2003.

Canada’s 22 April match with México kicks off at 14.30 at Legion Field in Birmingham. Their 24 April match with Argentina kicks off at 19.30 at Montgomery Soccer Complex in Montgomery.
