Canada’s men’s national team announced their roster for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Canadian team meets in Fort Lauderdale, FL next week in anticipation of the 2007 tournament that kicks off on 6 June.
Everyone is looking forward to the Gold Cup competition, says coach Stephen Hart. We have assembled a squad of players that work well together. We hope to build on these playing relationships in Venezuela (for a friendly) and in the United States as the competition progresses.

Canada’s roster consists of 20 players drawn from North American and European-based teams. The team will gather in Florida, but then head down to Maracaibo, Venezuela for an international friendly match on 1 June. Their opening-round matches in the CONCACAF Gold Cup are 6 June against Costa Rica, 9 June against Guadeloupe, and 11 June against Haiti. Their first three games are all played at the Orange Bowl in Miami, FL.
Along with the 20 players selected to the team, Canada has also announced three reserve players. If an injury occurs to any player on the full 23-man roster, that player can be replaced up until 24 hours before the team’s first game.
In the 16-year history of the Gold Cup (eight tournaments), Canada were confederation champions in 2000. The 2007 tournament features the biggest prize pool ever as prizes have more than doubled for all winners and qualifiers in the 12-team tournament.
